Ogni mattina Eli si sveglia prima che faccia giorno e affronta una traversata di due ore a bordo di pullman, metropolitane e autobus per raggiungere il posto di lavoro. Fa la barista in zona Tuscolana a Roma, ci sa fare con i clienti che apprezzano le sue crostatine fatte a mano, e ci mette del suo per rendere un incarico malpagato (in nero) qualcosa di vitale e gratificante. Del resto, con quattro figli da mantenere e un marito che ha voglia di lavorare ma nessuno che gli dia un incarico serio, c’è poco da fare la difficile: dunque Eli sopporta l’ignavo padrone del bar e la sua moglie maleducata, e sogna un futuro più semplice e più stabile. Vale è una performer che usa la danza moderna per esprimere la propria combattività, la stessa che la spinge a difendere la sua partner da un “impresario” violento e a litigare con la madre, borghesuccia col tubino nero e i pareri non richiesti. Ele e Vale sono amiche da sempre, anzi, “sorelle”, hanno in comune l’amore per il ballo, che Ele ha accantonato per tirare su famiglia, e il desiderio di non soccombere alla quotidianità. Una battaglia che richiede generosità e fatica: ma di fatica si può anche morire, in un presente in cui la frustrazione implode senza trovare un riscatto sociale.

“Give me three words, sun heart love” goes the chorus of a famous Italian pop song from the early 2000s. Here the line has been taken up by Daniele Vicari as the title of the piece heralding his return to fictional film four years on from Diaz – Don’t Clean Up This Blood .
Vicari draws us into the routine of Eli (Isabella Ragonese), who is in her early thirties, has four children, and is married to a husband (Francesco Montanari) who is very loving but hopelessly unemployed. So it’s up to her to support her family, and to do it, she wakes up at 4:30am everyday and goes to work in a bar two hours away from home, only returning late after 10pm, seven days a week. She does it with a smile on her face and a spring in her step, twirling through the metro like a ballerina, moving behind the bar as if on stage, even though she’s only had four hours sleep. When she leaves the house early in the morning, she crosses paths with Vale (Eva Grieco), her best friend, who has a life that’s diametrically opposed to that of Eli and is returning home at that time of day.

Nachdem Film: Gespräch mit der Schauspielerin ISABELLA RAGONESE


Der neue Film von Daniele Vicari, auch Regisseur von Diaz, ist eine Geschichte, die von den Unsicherheiten des Lebens handelt – im Zwischenmenschlichen wie auch in der Arbeitswelt. Eli (Isabella Ragonese), schon ausgelastet mit ihren vier Kindern und ihren Ehemann, arbeitet zusätzlich in einer Bar am Stadtrand von Rom. Viele Stunden bringt sie täglich in den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln zu, um zur Arbeit zu fahren. Von den Barbesitzern wird sie ausgebeutet. Nur durch ihre Freundschaft zu der Tänzerin Vale (Eva Grieco) schafft sie es, dem Alltag zu entfliehen.
